Gary Lyon was born 1947 in Rockland, Massachusettes. He attended the Boston School of the Museum of Fine Arts and Tufts University, graduating from both in 1971. In 1972 Gary moved to Homer, Alaska where he lives today.

Gary Lyon rose to public prominence in the mid 1970's as one of Alaska's finest wildlife artists. Now living with his wife and children in a log home near the town of Homer, Lyon draws and paints wildlife in a studio above scenic Kachemak Bay.

Lyon's artistic passion stems from his sheer enjoyment of the outdoors. The denizens of Alaska's vast boreal forests, open tundra, mountain peaks and marine environments hold a unique enchantment for the artist. Lyon shares this enchantment through sketches, studies, oils and stone lithographs.

"Encounter III"- Reproduced from an original stone lithograph enhanced with hand coloring. It shows a pack of inquisitve gray wolves peering out of the safety of the night.
3-1/2" by 7" print matted in navy blue
framed 8" by 11-1/2"

Wolves have become Lyon's lastest preoccupation and he captures the inquisitiveness, intelligence and power of the gray wolf.

Lyon adds "an artist needs to draw from experiences, paint from life, feel the wind on his cheek. That enthusiasm will come through in his work."
